Since Ivan is not putting any effort in keeping this site alive I had to do something about it (too busy keeping his boyfriend occupied I guess).

This is a really old news here in Croatia. Our Croatian actor Vladimir Tintor has been in the eye of the public last few months. Some angry gay people from his past put all of his private photos and things online so everybody can see them. On these photos he is kissing and hugging his ex gay lovers. Those angry people sent these pictures on 666 e-mail addresses and later that day the truth was out in the open. And Vladimir had to suffer the consequences. He is a well known Croatian actor so he was afraid to lose all of his future offers. His parents were also unaware that their son is a gay man so he was also afraid what will they do when they find out.
Lucky for him, all of his friends and job partners gave their support and his life went on almost like nothing happened.

Vladimir is mostly known for his role in the Croatian TV show "Zabranjena ljubav" (Forbidden Love). Here are some scenes that featured him in action.

Croatia sealed their place in the quarter-finals of UEFA EURO 2008™ as goals from Darijo Srna and Ivica Olić earned a famous win against Germany that took Slaven Bilić's side three points clear at the top of Group B. The US president arrived in Zagreb last Friday from Bucharest where Croatia was given the invitation to join NATO. President Bush arrived at the Westin Hotel from the airport, and at 6 p.m. Croatian President Mesic received him in his office. During the meeting with the state leaders, the citizens of Zagreb was carring out a protest against Bush’s administration.

Putting aside our opinion on the politics of George W. Bush, this two-day visit will always be written in Croatian history. Long preparations, traffic chaos, renewing the facade of the cabinet building, detailed searches of citizens at Saint Mark's Square… it seems that it was worth it. Namely, White House Headquarters, which saw Bush out at the Zagreb Pleso Airport along with many reporters, said that this was one of his better visits.

Also, the European Parliament, according to prognosis of expenses for the next year in which funds for parliamentary observers from Croatia are anticipated, counts on Croatian membership to the European Union in 2010. In his report on preliminary drafts of expenses for 2009, European Parliament Secretary General states that “current time projections point to a possibility of Croatian accession in 2010”. After Croatia decided to postpone the application of the Protected Ecological Fishery Zone (ZERP) for EU members, European institutions noticed progress in fulfilling certain steps which are necessary for opening new chapters. The European Commission has said it hopes to wrap up accession negotiations with Croatia before European Parliament elections in June 2009 provided Zagreb meets all key benchmarks by the end of June this year.

Macedonia's music star Tose Proeski, one of the biggest pop stars in the Balkans, died after the car he was riding in hit against a truck on the highway between Croatia's capital city of Zagreb and the village of Lipovac early on Tuesday.The 26-year-old singer died on spot. The driver of the car as well as Proeski's manager, who was sitting on the back seat, suffered serious injuries.The accident occurred after the car crashed into the back part of a truck because of the short distance between the two vehicles. Macedonia's government declared October 17 a day of mourning over the tragedy.

Toše Proeski, born on 25 January 1981, rose to stardom in the former Yugoslav republics and he was very popular both for his artistic merit as well as for his humanitarian work. Tose represented FYR Macedonia in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest. He had several number one hits in four former Yugoslav republics - Macedonia, Serbia, Bosnia-Hercegovina and Croatia.

For the 2nd time, Dinamo has passed in the EUFA cup by beating Ajax 3-2. This is great considering the 1-0 defeat in the first match.
On the way to Amsterdam, Dinamo players felt as if they were going towards an execution, but they came back as heroes. Mario Mandzukic paid back Dinamo’s investment in him with a forced penalty in the 34th minute and 2 goals, becoming Dinamo fans’ new hero.

The first half of extra time was a rhapsody for the “blues” in Amsterdam. That is when Mario Mandzukic became a hero. First he headed the ball and scored the 2-0 with assist of Mikic, and the third goal stabbed the net in the 96th minute. After that Ajax desperately went for it, and Huntelaar was back in the game from the 102nd minute. They got one more chance in the referee’s compensation towards the same player, but that was not enough for them.
The EUFA cup draw will be held on Tuesday in Nyon and we will get eight groups with five clubs.

Perry Moore is gay and he has funneled his passion into a young-adult novel. “Hero,” published in hardback last week, tells the story of Thom Creed, coping not only with high school, sexual orientation and a strained home life, but also with his own budding superpowers. In telling Thom’s story, Mr. Moore, like some of the costumed champions he admires, hopes to right some wrongs. He is also a producer of the “Chronicles of Narnia” film series.

But this book is not so interested as the next one. Perry said that there’s a lot left to tell in the future books. There will be more about the disappearance of Thom’s mother, he said, and about “his relationship with Goran,” a high school athlete he has romantic feelings for. It's interesting that Goran’s name came from two real people: the tennis player Goran Ivanisevic, Mr. Moore recalled, once used an anti-gay slur at a news conference to describe a linesman. Mr. Moore said he thought it sweet revenge to use his first name for the gay character. The other inspiration was the actor Goran Visnjic, or, as Mr. Moore put it, “the guy on ‘ER’ who is smoking hot.”

Seven firemen died and five were injured - four critically - Thursday in what was described as the worst disaster in Croatia's firefighting history. The firefighters were trapped while trying to extinguish a wildfire on Kornat island, on Croatia's central Adriatic Coast. The island is the largest in the Kornati archipelago of 150 islands, covering 320 kilometres square of sea off Zadar, 300 kilometres south of Zagreb.

The fire, one of hundreds that have hit Croatia's coast this summer, erupted early Thursday afternoon. Wildfires were also reported in other regions.

Stipe Bozic, head of the mountain rescue service, told national television HTV that the entire unit was trapped in an area covered by tall, dry grass. Bozic said the area was uninhabited criticized the decision to send the men there. "It is the worst tragedy I ever saw," said Bozic, who has been engaged in rescue operations over more than two decades.

The autopsy carried out by pathologists in Split shows that the seven fire-fighters who were killed while putting out the fire on Kornati were burned alive. Investigation has so far revealed that the fire that killed the unfortunate fire-fighters was caused by a receptionist working in the building of the National Park in Vrulje bay, who tossed a cigarette butt into the dry grass next to the building.

Tomorrow is mourning day in Croatia and the Sibenik - Knin County has been in seven-day mourning since Friday. Primary and secondary schools will not start tomorrow.

Denis Obadić is a star of a Croatian TV show "Normalnofobija" ("Normalphobia") where he's doing all sorts of crazy stuff. He and his friend Goran Brozović (who is actually Marko's first neighbor) invented this show where they goof around, taping their body parts, fruit and food to their heads with duck tape. The name of the show itself states that there is nothing normal in it.
Denis was born in 1973. in Zagreb. He's 183cm tall and weighs 83kg. In his free time he likes to play video games, play his guitar and chilling out with his friends.

DISASTER: Dubrovnik on fire

One of the oldest Croatian resort towns, Dubrovnik is in fire. Special situation has been announced because of the strong fire emerged on the Adriatic coast. The local authorities started to evacuate tourists and population of the town. The firemen have been unable to overcome the fire for already four days. Strong fire has damaged Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Macedonia, Albania, Spain, Portugal and Turkey together with Croatia.

The city of Dubrovnik is one of the most recognisable tourist attractions on the coasts of Europe, with its gigantic angular stone fortifications jutting out into the clear blue waters of the Adriatic Sea. Inside the city walls it is a mass of tiled roofs, stone towers and mazy streets.
Now the area of coastline where it is situated is threatened by a major forest fire. The fire has been spread from inland Bosnia and Hercegovina by strong winds, and it has now reached the suburbs of Dubrovnik.

In the first 20 days of July more than 600 fires broke out in Croatia. Many are suspectedly the result of arson, said chief fire commander.

The sixth-seed Spaniard, who also won the tournament in 1996 and three times between 2001 and 2003, swept aside the unseeded Romanian with a convincing 6-4 6-2 triumph. The win brought him to #18 in the rankings, his highest rank since May 23, 2005, when he was #15.

Croatian Gay Beaches (2) - Split

Dujilovo gay nude beach is the most frequent gay beach near Split. It is a strip of coast south of Split, between hotel Zagreb and Stobrec village. The is rocky beach with pine trees above the shore. Woods are, obviously, very cruisy. Almost everybody is gay here. To get there take the bus number 15 from the city. If you have a car, drive into Stobrec and park near the school and walk down to the beach.

Kasjun beach (Marjan hill, 178m high), lies on the west side of the city. Today it is a park forest. This is a large peninsula poking out into the Adriatic to the west of the city center. The park is a great place to bike around (you can rent bikes near the entrance for a few kuna), walk the wooded trails, or dip your toes into the sea along the shoreline. It's a popular weekend spot for Split residents. Gay men often visit beautiful beach just before Institute of Oceanography. It is a rocky and hilly area and it is not exclusively gay and in fact very mixed. To get there take the bus no. 12 from the church of St. Francis in the center, near hotel Bellevue. Take off at Institute and walk down to the beach by steep path.

On today's day 18 years ago (06. of May 1989), Croatia reach it's first and only victory for now on Eurovision Song Contest in Lausanne, Switzerland. Then as a part of Yugoslavia, Croatian TV Zagreb send group RIVA from Zadar with their song 'Rock me' and they thrilled European fans, wich brouth them 137 points. Yugoslavia surprised themselves and fans by winning.

And thanks to RIVA, a year latter Eurosong was maintained in Zagreb, capital of Croatia in Lisinski hall. The winner in Zagreb was Italian Toto Cotugno with song 'In sieme 1992'. Yugoslav entry that year was again from Croatia. Tajči with 'Hajde da ludujemo' take 7th position. That year, 1990 was the first and only time that Eurovision was held in this part of Europe. We hope it's not the last time.

This year is the first time in Eurosong history that all 6 former Yugoslav republic participate, but our dear friends and neighbours from Slovenia have the most beautiful and sexyest hunk in their music video. Did you know that Croatia is the mother country of the necktie? Yes, it's true.

In his book, La Grande Histoire de la Cravate (Flamarion, Paris, 1994), François Chaille tells us about the appearance of this article of clothing and how it became fashionable. "... Around the year 1635, some six thousand soldiers and knights came to Paris to give their support to King Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu. Among them were a great number of Croatian mercenaries led by a ban, or Croatian viceroy.

The traditional outfit of these Croats aroused interest on account of the unusual and picturesque scarves distinctively tied about their necks. The scarves were made of various cloths, ranging from coarse material for common soldiers, to fine cotton and silk for officers. This elegant "Croatian style" immediately enamoured the French, who were delighted by the new article of clothing, which had been previously unknown in Europe.

Around the year 1650, during the reign of Louis XIV, the Croatian scarf was accepted in France, above all in court, where military ornaments were much admired. The fashionable expression, ’a la croate’, soon evolved into a new French word, which still exists today: la cravate. This innovation symbolized the height of culture and elegance. On his return to England from exile, Charles II brought with him this new word in fashion. Over the next ten years, this fashion novelty spread across Europe, as well as across the colonies on the American continent..."

Although started in the 17th century in a small region on the Adriatic coast, the consequences of this event are still very much evident the world over. 600 million people now wear the ubiquitous symbol of Croatia around their necks, close to their hearts.

A young couple from Dubrovnik have founded a firm by the name of Gay Dubrovnik, first Croatian tourist agency whose clientele will be homosexuals. First guests to Dubrovnik arriving with this agency are expected in the 2007 season.

“As a tourist destination, Dubrovnik has for a long time been popular among homosexuals. However, there are no official clubs or events designed for that population. Still, the attitude in the city is positive towards a creation of such events” – said Katija Opalic, the director and one of the founders of Gay Dubrovnik Travel Agency.
Regarding the offers, Opalic says that they will be similar to those of some existing agencies, but there will be more celebrations and less historical and cultural engagements.
The agency won’t limit its services to the summer and the sea, intending to include New Years celebrations and skiing arrangements. After being asked about any reaction by the inhabitants of Dubrovnik to the formation of a gay agency, Opalic says that it has been positive and that she has not heard any bad comments about it.

Qeer Zagreb Festival was established in 2003 with the goal to stimulate and promote queer culture in Zagreb, the region and the world. The "queer" has made its entry very late in Croatia. However, mainstreaming of LGBT rights is closely connected with Croatia's aspiration to join the EU and with the mainstreaming of the human rights discourse.

One of the most interesting works of art the festival produced is a "Queer Zebra" that is becoming a permanent installation in one of the main squares in Zagreb. It is a work by the young Croatian visual artist Silvio Vujičić who painted one street crossing in rainbow colours making a simple and very strong statement of "crossing" to the other side that the LGBT movement still awaits.
